Slightly curved steel blade with two partial fullers on each side and large panels of deeply etched decoration. The right side features crossed cannons and American flags in the center with other panels of scrollwork and decoration including a patriotic shield and sword. The left side is decorated with panels of oak leaves, arms motifs, foliate scrolls and a large "US". A panel near the ricasso is etched "TIFFANY/ & CO/ NEW YORK". The left side of the ricasso itself is stamped "COLLINS & CO/ HARTFORD/ CONN./ 1862". Standard gilt brass Model 1850 hilt with chagrin with twisted brass wire. Complete with black leather scabbard with brass mounts. CONDITION: Good. Blade retains much of original polish with some areas of dark spotting and light grey freckling. Hilt retains generous traces of gilt in protected areas, otherwise brass retains a mellow, unpolished patina. Scabbard very good, with mounts matching patina on hilt. Drag with some denting on both sides and leather with some touched up scuffing to surface. Also includes part of the leather covered canvas sword hanger.
