February 5, 6, & 7, 2019 Field & Range Firearms
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/5/2019
These unusually large repeating firearms are believed to be made to be mounted in front of a small boat or skiff. They operate by tying a heavy string to the lever and by pulling it, operating the large hammer and rotating the cylinder. Has a singular loading gate. The large cylinder holds twenty rounds and rides on a center pivot. Barrel is 9-5/8" and is smoothbore. CONDITION: Entirely made of iron and features a thick brown patina that is layering. It is not in any working condition. Cylinder rotates by hand, but the lever activates neither the hammer not the cylinder. Bore diameter is .440. Appears to have been made for a centerfire or shot cartridge. We can find no trace of any manufacturer or any mention of such a weapon in the book "Firearms Curiosa" by Winant. An unusual weapon indeed.
