Probably circa 1800. Tapered diamond section blade of steel. Circular gilt brass guard with rope-decorated patterns. Turned one-piece ivory hilt. Complete with black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts and hanging rings. Left side of throat mount has an applied plaque marked "SALTER/ SWORD CUTLERS &/ TO HRH THE/ DUKE OF SUSSEX/ CORNER OF THE ADELPHI/ 73 STRAND/LONDON". CONDITION: Good to very good. Blade retains a spotted grey patina with some darker areas. Guard and mounts retain about 95% original gilt finish. Ivory hilt retains a pleasing patina with a few cracks due to age. Scabbard very good, minor losses to tip and drag is absent.
