In bronze gilt with purple, red, green and white enamels, engraved "Elvin E. Mattison St 3c USN" on the reverse, original ribbon with split brooch pinback, roll catch, intact enamels, light contact marks. On the night of September 29-30 1943 while engaging Japanese barge traffic involved in the evacuation of the island of Kolombangara, the Destroyer USS McCalla collided with the Destroyer USS Patterson resulting in the deaths of three crew members. One of which was Steward 3rd Class Elvin E. Mattison born January 26, 1945. CONDITION: Intact enamels and light contact marks.
