Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre vase in the Torches pattern shows a bright yellow stairway illuminated by two brilliant torches. At the bottom of the stairway is a body of water in midnight lustre with water sprites. There is a white castle in the distance and a Japanese lantern against a flame sky. The vase has a flaring foot that is decorated with a flaming wheel border against a light blue background. Interior of the rim is also finished with a flaming wheel border. Signed on the underside with Portland vase mark, "Wedgwood Made in England" and "Z4968" with impressed "3177", also signed with "S Makeig-Jones" in two locations at base of trees. Similar example is illustrated in the reference book "Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre" by Una des Fontaines. pg.107. Minor wear to gilded rim and foot, otherwise Very Good to Excellent.
