24" Barrel with typical Sedgley rolled on markings and "S" stamp at breech end, is engraved with 6" triangle of shaded acanthus scroll surrounding a 1-3/4" triangle of nicely cut matching relief scroll. Banded on front sight ramp is surrounded by matching engraving. Standard Springfield action (serial number is stamped on rear bolt handle and on sear channel rear of action in usual Sedgley style) is also engraved in 70% coverage of matching scroll. This work is most likely by William Gough, engraver from Philadelphia, who is best known for work on A.H. Fox guns. Action has had bolt body polished and lightly damascened. Knob is checkered. A Lyman 48 receiver sight has been installed along with a Griffin & Howe single lever side mount with windage adjustment holding a Hensoldt 2-3/4 X Klein-Dialyt scope with crosshair and post reticle. Nicely figured American walnut steel capped pistol grip stock measures 13-3/4" over engraved and checkered steel buttplate with trap. Stock also features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, horn forend tip, and point pattern checkering at grip and forend. Weight: 8 lbs 13 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Metal parts retain approximately 90% of what appears to be original blue, but is possibly an old immersion re-blue, with very little polishing. Stock retains most of its hand rubbed oil finish, most likely original, over numerous marks and scratches, both light and fairly heavy. Checkering is somewhat worn and filled with finish. Bore is fine, a bit dark in grooves (may clean). Scope is fine, with some areas of cleaned rust, optically good. Leather covers present, connecting strap is missing. An attractive classic American bolt action. MGM47.
