This is what is referred to as the Tangent adjustable rear sight to 500 meters. It is a Model Mark I No. 1 manufactured between 1943 and 1945. All matching numbers. Features black plastic grips and lanyard ring, and parkerized black finish. Numerous Canadian proofs on right side. Left side is stamped "MARK I BROWNING FN 9MM HP INGLIS CANADA". Hammer is from a Mark II. Has the early split back base stamped "JI" on front. Pistol is cut for, and accompanied by, a shoulder stock. Stock is made of wood with "S.A. LTD. / 1945" stamp on left side, just behind attachment point. Stock is of the hinge design with a belt loop clip attached to hinge. CONDITION: Retains 75% of the military finish, showing overall high edge wear. The most interesting aspect of this pistol is that it has two kanji character stamps on left side of slide which would indicate it was captured by the Japanese and so marked. Stock is in fine condition with some scattered handling marks, most notably towards the rear, near hinge screws. Gun fits into stock butt correctly and attaches firmly. First Japanese capture Canadian Hi-Power we are aware of. For the collector of Japanese pistols, this is a true gem as we cannot find any examples anywhere so marked. Very rare and collectible Hi-Power.
