Manufactured in Swissvale, Pennsylvania under the contract to Colt; production began in January 1943 and their contract was cancelled soon after. US&S delivered a total of 55,000 Model 1911A1's by November 27th, 1943. All were made in the same year. Left side of the frame has initials "RCD" for Robert C. Downey, who was the chief inspector at US&S for the entire year and will be found on all original US&S pistols. There is a proof "P" next to magazine release. Left side of slide is stamped "U.S.&S. CO. SWISSVALE PA USA". Right side of frame stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY" with serial number. There is a proof "P" on top of frame. Barrel has intertwined "HP", used on military Colts from serial number 210387 to 710000 in three variations which date barrel prior to 1924. Sports the proper Keyes star stamped brown composite grips and features short checkered trigger, short checkered hammer without spur, beveled edge rear sight with square notch, checkered arched mainspring housing with lanyard. Magazine has five view holes, matte blue finish and "R" stamped base for Raymond Engineering Corp, which is a Type 4G. CONDITION: All legends are sharp. Top of frame matte finish is thinning and there is a light area in front of rear sight where something took the finish off, which you can see in photograph. Fine bore. Overall, light edge wear from holster; still a good, solid 85% or better US&S Co. with the exception of early barrel.
