Referred to as the 2nd Model or Model 1863, manufactured 1863 to 1865. Left side of barrel has the military inspector stamp "GWS" for George W. Sherman who inspected several different Civil War carbines and swords to include the 2nd Model Maynard. The 2nd Model Maynard are the most often seen Sherman inspected weapons. This carbine features octagon to round barrel, two leaf flip-up military rear sight, dovetail front sight, saddle ring and bar, percussion system with lever activated tip-down barrel, walnut stock and smooth steel buttplate. Left side of frame has the Edward Maynard patents. Right side of frame has the Massachusetts Arms Company stamp. CONDITION: Barrel finish is basically a blue-brown patina with age freckling. Case colored frame has patterned out. Walnut stock is near mint, as refinished, but still proud to metal. Near mint bore. Some of the Cavalry regiments armed with the weapon were the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee. This rifle is accompanied by an extra barrel in .35 Maynard. Has the same style front and rear sights. CONDITION: Reblued with pitting under bluing. Fine bore. Complete with extra lever.
