Full choke marked barrel with two line Winchester barrel address and "NICKEL STEEL FOR SMOKELESS AMMUNITION" marking on left side of barrel. The 1885 was designed by America's foremost firearms designer John Moses Browning. More variations of the Model 1885 were produced than any other model produced by Winchester. With this being said the 20 gauge shotgun was one of the rarest variations and are rarely encountered; most are later production guns made with blue steel finish and walnut two piece stocks with hard rubber buttplates. Most examples are found in the 110,000 to 115,000 serial range and this example falls right into the middle. CONDITION: Barrel retains most all finish with slight loss at muzzle and thinning at address area. Receiver is blue with over 75% finish remaining with common flaking of finish that occurred during this time frame. Two piece walnut stocks are very good with most all varnish remaining. Typical period storage dings and bruising exists but is very limited to bottom of forearm. Stocks are proud to metal. Buttstock has a crack emitting from tang towards butt and another crack on right side of wrist (this could be repaired). Overall a better than average condition example of a very rare variation of the 1885 Single Shot. Factory letter states Model 1885 Serial No. 113730 had its serial number applied June 12th, 1913.
