Roy Vail produced a small number of high quality custom guns and rifles from the late '50's to the very early '70's. He customized many himself, others, such as this particular gun, were finished at various factories in Europe and imported under his name. This good quality nicely finished gun has dovetailed barrels with slightly raised matted game rib is engraved "Roy Vail, Warwick N.Y." on unmatted portion. Barrel flats are stamped with Belgian nitro proofs for 2-1/2" chambers and "ROY VAIL". Case hardened scallop-backed boxlock action features non-automatic safety, pivoting third fastener, side clips, and Miller single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with 80% coverage light open scroll with rose bouquet highlights. Top lever and trigger guard are blued and also scroll engraved. Nicely fiddle figured European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over black KICKEEZ pad over 1/4" extension (12-3/8" to end of wood). Grip has point pattern checkering. Matching short and wide splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Gun is accompanied by blue and orange Beretta slipcase. Excellent condition. Metal finishes very close to new with only a hint of silvering on sharp edges. Stocks retain most of their original finish with oil rubbed in and added, most likely at time of pad installation. Bores are excellent with a hint of frosting. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works. Case is excellent.
