Manufactured 1852 to 1855. According to the "Sharps Rifle Book" by Sellers, page 43, a mere 193 sporting rifles were manufactured. Featured walnut stock with brass patchbox and buttplate, pewter forend tip, single trigger, single lead folding rear sight, dovetail front sight, lollipop style screw in tang sight cut-out in stock to accommodate folding, and the Edward Maynard priming system. Barrel is stamped "SHARPS RIFLE CO HARTFORD". 1848 patent date on tang. CONDITION: All metal is a smooth grey-brown soft patina. Walnut stocks are excellent with usual storage marks and a hairline crack at right wrist. Overall rifle shows a fine homogeneous appearance with nice wood. Strong, well defined rifled bore with frosted grooves. If you have been looking for a nice example of this scarce rifle, this is far above average if you see one.
