Standard 1896 in all respects featuring full length stock, walnut hand guard, military sights. Left side of stock has "SWP 1898" cartouche for Sam Porter, which would indicate its possible use in Cuba during the Spanish-American War or immediately after in the Philippines. CONDITION: Barrel finish is basically blue mixing with brown-grey patina. Front band with bayonet lug still has some evidence of original blue. Rear band is a blue-brown patina. Frame has basically turned a soft grey patina with razor sharp legends. The cartouche is visible but a little difficult to read. Stock has abrasions commiserate with use. There is a small chip of wood missing at bottom heel at plate. Trigger guard is basically bun metal grey with some patina and flashes of blue. Fine action and sharp, rifled bore. A lovely example of a Spanish-American War era use but well cared for rifle and one of the slickest bolt actions ever made.
