This is a beautifully made pre-War Merkel over-under combination gun. Left side of barrel is stamped "GEORGE HONOLD, ULM". This is a rifle over shotgun with matted rib, claw mounts, standing rear sight, ramp front sight, sling swivel, and blued barrels. Boxlock scalloped frame is delicately engraved on all sides. Bottom of frame is engraved with Merkel manufacturing information. Has a horned extended trigger guard with scalloped pistol grip. Most of the screws are engraved. Stock features a splinter for with a Deeley style release. Double triggers. Checkered pistol grip stock with rollover cheekpiece, straight comb, smooth black composite buttplate, owner ID plaque with initials, sling swivel in butt. Scope is a Carl Zeiss with line and post crosshairs. CONDITION: Barrels retain approximately 95% original blue finish with some age freckling and some patina blending through. Frame is in the white. Horned trigger guard is in excellent condition. Stock is very good to excellent with sharp checkering and the usual bumps and bruises. Strong clean bore. Checkering has worn thin on forend. Beautiful rifle that would be ever more handsome if someone was the refinish and recut the checkering, which would bring it back to life as the metal is superior to the stock condition.
