This carbine falls outside the true 1898 Saddle Ring Carbine range (118894 to 134256). Carbine stock has "JSA" inspector cartouche where the date is not readable but appears to be "1898" so may be a true carbine stock. Custom front sight has been added and later 1901 style rear sight. Saddle ring and bar. Cursive "P" on butt. Proper "US" barrel band with protective ears that has been cleaned. Model 98 standard frame. CONDITION: Barrel has been cut down and is in the white with some age spotting. Frame is cleaned to gun metal grey. Walnut stock is in excellent condition and is probably worth more then the balance of the gun. Very good bore and action. Should be good value for the parts alone.
