Credited with being the first bolt action rifle, the Dreyse needle gun used a bolt action in order to prime a needle that struck a percussion cap inside of a paper cartridge. Initially used by the Prussian Army, this style of rifle saw use all across Europe including the Austro-Prussian War, Franco-Prussian War and the Romanian War of Independence. Frame is dated 1856 and finished in the white. Has all visible matching serial numbers. Straight comb with rollover cheek piece. Two sling swivels. CONDITION: Very clean with toning expected of a gun this age. Stock is very good with usual handling marks and abrasions. Missing the cleaning rod. Strong rifled bore in need of cleaning. Still has the needle.
