Lot consists of: Gun (A) Danish Model 1867/96. This rifle was manufactured in Denmark under Remington license. Production began in 1870 and by 1874 they had produced approximately 2,000 per year. Total number produced is approximately 31,500. Made at the Kjobenhavns Tojhuus factory with marking stamped on tang. The Danish rear sights were in Danish measurements. Side of the frame is stamped "M1867" with a "K" and crown. Crown proof on block and hammer. Serial numbers on left side of blued barrel. Stock has a brass disc on right side. This rolling block featured the cleaning rod, two sling swivels, and a side barrel bayonet lug for saber bayonet. Frame was case colored. CONDITION: Barrel is a smooth blue-grey patina. Case color pattern on frame still remains. Stock is excellent with a few normal dings and two crown proofs on left side of forend. Near mint bore and action. Lovely example of a rifle rarely seen in the States. Gun (B) standard issue New York Infantry rifle. Finished in the white. On November 16th, 1871 the governor of New York approved the purchase of 15,000 Remington Breechloading single shot rifles in .50-70. They purchased 4,500 more on May 29th, 1873 and they served in the New York Home Guard for 20 years. Features three barrel bands, cleaning rod, military rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. Proof "P" on right side of barrel. Distinctive features include tall, straight hammer with shield checkering. Inspector mark "S" on left of barrel and "B" on left of frame. There is an inspector cartouche on left side at wrist and butt that are visible but not readable. Buttplate is stamped "R32 8". This rifle has the early first order tang marking with the last date of November 1871. CONDITION: Gun metal grey with age freckling. Wood is in excellent condition. Mirror bore. If you are looking for a pair of extremely nice military rolling block, you will be extremely happy with this pair.
