Originally produced as a prototype battle rifle for Germany in World War II, the United Kingdom modified the design for their own use. It was eventually adopted by NATO as their rifle of choice and has remained so since 1952. This particular specimen is Belgian made and was imported into the United States by Steyr out of Secaucus, New Jersey. It is a standard FAL featuring black composite buttplate, pistol grip, and fore grip, which is triangular in shape. Barrel is a four groove with 1:12 twist. The barrel has the bipod mounting ring. Barrel has the short 12 port muzzle brake, along with a tubular bayonet that has a a plastic scabbard and web belt hangar. Sights are aperture rear and post front. Cleaning kit is present in pistol grip. Left side of receiver is stamped ".308 MATCH." Right side stamped "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL/MADE IN BELGIUM/STEYR SECAUCUS N.J." Sling swivel stud attached to bottom rear of buttstock, with other end attached to barrel. CONDITION: Rifle is in good condition. Frame retains 90% of finish with only some light high edge wear. Hood has normal wear and bumps from FAL ejecting. The plastic buttstock, pistol grip, and foregrip all show numerous marks of use but there are no visible cracks or areas of loss. Carry handle rotates correctly. Nosecap of the forearm has 70% of finish remaining, with balance being patina and oriented towards the front. Action is fine and the bore is shiny. Barrel has some high edge wear, especially on the muzzle brake.
