Slightly curved diamond section steel blade with wide, shallow, partial fuller on each side. The right side has a brass proved cartouche, a five pointed star. The opposite side of the ricasso is etched "TATHAM / 37 / CHARING CROSS / LONDON"; right side featured an etched British coat of arms surrounded by scrollwork, the opposite side features a large fouled anchor over a royal crown. Standard pattern 1827 hilt with fouled anchor over a crown in relief in the front of the guard, and lion's head pommel. Sharkskin wrapped grip decorated with strands of twisted copper wire. Complete with its original black leather scabbard with engraved gilt brass mounts. The single edge straight blade was adopted in 1829 so this sword dates before that time. CONDITION: Blade has been polished and shows some wear to edges and etching. Blade has several nicks to edge. Hilt and scabbard mounts have been re-gilded and now retain 100% of their reapplied finish. The folding counter guard is missing part of its hinge and is included with the sword but not attached. Scabbard is very good with some crazing and a reapplied black finish.
