This is a most interesting 12 gauge needle fire side by side shotgun by Joseph Needham. The barrels measure 33-5/8" long when you include the needle fire action and appear to be of plain steel. The stock is nicely checkered through the wrist in a two point pattern with teardrop behind the action and full steel buttplate which is lightly engraved at heel. There is a nicely engraved dog on the trigger guard bow surrounded by light scroll and the long trigger guard tang is also nicely scroll engraved with serial number at center. The stock is held on with a wedge fastener at center of forearm which is nicely checkered. The top rib is marked "Joseph Needham and Co. 26 Picadilly London". Top of action is also nicely scroll engraved. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain about 80% blued finish with some spotting and a few light pits. Stocks are very good and retain most of an older restored finish with scattered marks. A most interesting shotgun and an important part of the evolution of breechloading shotguns! JSL19
