This is a rare higher grade gun marketed by J.P. Lovell of Boston, Massachusetts. The gun is a 12 gauge with 28" "Fine Damascus" barrels. The top rib is marked "John P. Lovell Arms Co./ Boston, MA" in an open space on the top rib and further down the rib it is marked "Eureka Gun / Fine Damascus." The gun has a pistol grip buttstock with silver oval near toe and has a horn grip cap and buttplate is carved with a Edwardian hunting scene and is of hard rubber. Teardrop behind locks and checkered in stylized point pattern through the wrist. Action is engraved with light scroll and border pattern with landing pheasant on left and woodcock(?) on right. Splinter forend is near fully checkered with Deeley release and ebony pointed tip. CONDITION: Excellent overall. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original finish. Action retains some original case color, mostly on locks with bottom having turned more silver. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanics are crisp. A very interesting gun in a really nice state of preservation. JSL8
