Barrel is marked "US" with flaming bomb at breech. Also marked "US" with flaming bomb on left side of frame. Left side of breech barrel stamped "MM(anchor)" date code. Features blued finish, pistol grip plain walnut stock, checkered walnut forend. Stock is stamped with Ordnance cannons and "FJA" Frank Atwood on left side. Bolt is stamped "THE SPORTSMAN". These long barreled shotguns with the compensators were used in Army training camps for aerial gunners to work on talents such as leading the target during World War II. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 90% original blue with some thinning and light freckling. Frame has high edge wear and a forward screws on both sides of the frame have been messed with and should be replaced. Frame has light engraving with pheasant and duck. Stock has some chipping at upper tang and wrist, which would also be an easy repair. With a little bit of work this could be a top condition World War II US training shotgun.
