Offered is one of the finest blued pre-war Service Model Ace pistols this writer has ever seen. Serial number 1 was August 29th, 1935. Floating chamber was invented by David M. Carbine-Williams. Approximately 12460 pistols were made between serial number 1 and 13803. A total of 11961 were procured by the U.S. Army and feature the Stevens adjustable rear sight, full checkered walnut grips, checkered arched mainspring housing, short checkered trigger, wide spurred checkered hammer, and checkered slide stop and safety. Standard Colt factory high polish finish can be seen through serial 3846, the balance featured the dull phosphate finish known as Parko-Lubrite. This is a high polished model. Left side of frame has "RS" inspector stamp for Robert Sear. CONDITION: There is a touch of pinhead wear at muzzle and side of grip safety. Gun has just about as new inside and out. Comes with the tempered two tone magazine still in original cosmoline. Comes with Service Model Ace instructions, in a government type pasteboard box. According to the Clawson book, serial number range 1748-2050 was in a shipment of 75 guns shipped June 27th, 1941 to the commanding officer of the Springfield Armory. The last shipment of Service Model Aces occurred January 9th 1943, and it was a shipment of ten guns to the Raritan Arsenal. None were shipped in 1944. Production resumed May 8th, 1945 and continued to September 18th, 1945. In 1941, the last shipment occurred on December 26th, 19 days after the Pearl Harbor attack. A total of 1095 revolvers were shipped to the Springfield Armory. CORRECTION: After further investigation, it has been found pistol has been professionally restored by Turnbull Restoration; July 11th, 1997. Slide is serial number 1845.
