Approximately 3,500 Shooting Masters were made prior to the war from 1932 to 1941. The Shooting Master was built on the New Service target frame with some minor changes. Standard chambering for this model was the .38 special but in 1936 the .357 Magnum became offered, and it quickly became the second most popular cartridge for the model but still scarce in comparison to the .38 Special. This model features adjustable front and rear sights, flat top frame, six shot fluted cylinder, finely checkered trigger, checkered hammer spur, both front and back straps were hand checkered, and silver medallion checkered walnut grips. CONDITION: This gun has been shot but is still in excellent all original condition. There is finish wear at muzzle advancing towards the breech approximately 1-1/2". Cylinder has wear on all high spots and edge of cylinder. Trigger guard has high edge wear. Blue on cylinder is thinning and would be rated at approximately 70% with balance of gun averaging closer to 90%. Completely functional with a near mint bore. Accompanied by a period box which is serial numbered to box on inside lid like the Colt New Service. Listed at .357 and points out an equally scarce feature with the square butt as opposed to the much more common round butt. The box is in excellent all original condition, all aprons intact. There is some corner and high edge wear on the outside, and is one of the only boxes we've seen in the leatherette finish and stenciled Colt Shooting Master. A very scarce example of the Colt Shooting Master.
