This fine 17th century morion has excellent form, two piece construction, twelve gilt iron rosettes, two hole lining, which is absent. One each side is etched in gilt a large stylized Fleur-de-lis. In the reserve and etched florals surrounding it. Comb is etched and gilt with a helmeted, bearded, mustachioed warrior, possibly a king. Dual peaks are etched and gilt. Helmet is beautifully roped. Weighs 2 lbs 10.4oz. CONDITION: Helmet retains much gilding, etching is crisp with only minor surface rust and patination. All rosettes appear to be original. Interior of the helmet rough from the hammer. No significant cracks or delamination. This helmet appears pristine as found throughout. CORRECTION: Etching and gilding possibly of a later date than the morion itself.
