Designed by Krnka, financed by Roth, and produced by Sauer, this pistol can trace its lineage to the 1892 design. The patent was granted to Roth and Krnka. Uses a long recoil system where barrel, block, and breech all lock together engaging a recess in the breech, which tripped a bolt allowing the block to run forward and chamber a fresh cartridge. Has a complete absence of any kind of safety devices. Stamped JP Sauer and Sohn, Suhl on top barrel flat, forward chamber is stamped Patent Roth. Only other marking is serial number"A14" on butt. The black grips feature an ornate oval frame with a human figure inside referred to as the Bearded Savage Hunter, Sauer's registered trademark. This pistol is discussed at some length on page 203 of the book "Pistols of the World" by Hogg and Weeks. CONDITION: Some light rubs on right side of slide, wear at bottom of butt, and a few very minor handling marks. Otherwise, this pistol still retains 97+% of the high polish factory blue finish. Grips are near mint to mint. Mint bore. Loads through an integral stripper clip guide. These pistols are so scarce that it is hard to determine where it stands condition to existing numbers but it has to be amongst the very best out there. A beautiful little rare 19th century design pocket pistol.
