The military issue class of 1889 handgun running through the Model 1903 are some of the most affordable of all turn of the century military firearms, and offer an excellent opportunity for the student and collector to get in an entry level pricing structure on beautiful military weapons with enough variations to keep you busy for quite a while. These were widely used by all branches of the service from the Spanish-American War throughout Haiti, the Philippines and the Banana Wars during Teddy Roosevelt's Manifest Destiny, but also represents Colt's first adventure into the swing-out cylinder. These early guns exhibit the famous Colt high polish factory blue finish with the small heat-treated parts long admired by collectors world-wide. The butt is stamped "US ARMY MODEL 1901". Bottom of each walnut grip panel has the "RAC" inspector marks for Renaldo Carr. This Carr inspection stamp can be found twice on the back of the cylinder and once on the left side of the frame. CONDITION: This gun is in superb, all original, lightly used condition. While this revolver has some light handling marks, a couple rubs and some light thinning on backstrap, it retains a solid 90% or better original Colt high polish blue finish and most of the nitre blue on small parts and screws. Original walnut grips are near mint. Indexes correctly. Mirror bore.
