Made up until 1916, this model was at the top of the "Ideal" line. Many options were available. 32" No. 3 weight one-third octagon barrel has all correct factory markings, and is fitted with front sight with interchangeable apertures. Case hardened number 44-1/2 action with double set triggers, wood paneled lever, and windage adjustable tang sight with multi-aperture sighting disc, is engraved with unusual scenes of a turkey in open meadow on left, and a puma on rock on right. By looking at the very interesting engraving, the border is noted to be several different styles, and the belief is that this gun was made as a salesman's sample, designed to show off different engraving patterns. Semi-straight, nicely crotch figured American walnut buttstock with heavy nickel plated schutzen buttplate features large right handed cheekpiece and fancy checkering pattern. Matching schnabeled forend is inlet with interesting (possible factory) mother-of-pearl inlays. Central inlay is also inset with opal. Schnabeled portion of forend has inlet mother-of-pearl and silver flower and leaves. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Barrel retains over 50% of what appears to be original blue and has been drilled and tapped for scope blocks (filler screws presently installed). Action retains possibly as much as 30% original color, considerably silvered and faded. Stocks retain most of their original French polish worn through on high edges, with numerous light marks. Checkering is dark and somewhat worn, especially on forend. Buttplate retains nearly all of its nickel (possibly renewed). Bore is good to fine lightly frosted, with a ring about 8" from breech end. Action is tight. Triggers work. A silver leaf is missing from inlay on forend. An attractive rifle. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Francis Brown. TR
