Shipped to warehouse in 1906, this lot features a Savage Model 1899-H with square bolt with cocking indicator, brass cartridge counter, lever safety, solid frame, blade front sight, elevated rear and a Lyman peep. Blued barrel with blued action and serrated Savage marked steel serrated buttplate. Case hardened lever and blued trigger. Walnut checkered pistol grip stock with grip cap and checkered walnut forearm. Originally shipped as a 20", .303 Savage. Factory letter indicates that the rifle was returned for unknown work under job number 3741 in October of 1930, probably for the addition of the checkered pistol grip stock and fore end as well as the stamp on receiver ring. Additionally, the letter notes that the rifle started with a square lock up, which explains the original bolt. A copy of the factory letter is available on line for this item. CONDITION: Barrel retains 80% blue with excellent markings with some light pitting along left side of barrel. Bore is excellent. Action has 80% blue with light handling marks. Wood retains 80% original finish with sharp original checkering. Mechanics are good. A fine Savage 1899. From the collection of Josh Weiner.
