Model 1888 Trapdoor one of 65,000 made with rod bayonet, 1884 dated breech block and "US SPRINGFIELD" marked lock. One piece trigger guard with US marked buttplate and grooved corrugated trigger. Wood stock with "SWP" and "P" in circle cartouche and 1891 date. "B9" mark on top of the wrist (most likely a rack number). Hooded front sight with Buffington rear sight. Rare rifle essential in any trapdoor collection. CONDITION: Barrel retains a nice plum-brown color with an excellent bore. Lock has faded to brown patina. Metal parts are fading to plum. Mechanically sound and functions fine.
