Post-Civil War alteration of Spencer carbine to rifle by Springfield Armory done between 1867 and 1868. Rifle has carbine style saddle ring with the addition of the "Stabler Cutoff". Arsenal restocked with visible cartouche and two band forestock. Blade front sight with graduated rear sight. Steel ramrod and three groove rifled barrel. Arsenal refinished with approximately 11,000 altered. CONDITION: Metal parts turning a deep shade of plum. Bore is fair with visible rifling. Wood has been cleaned and cartouche is visible but faint. Mechanically sound and functions fine.
