By royalty agreement with the Remington Arms Co., the Springfield Armory manufactured 10,001 Model 1871 Rolling Block Army rifles in 1871 and 1872 only. The left side of frame is stamped "Model 1871" while the right side of the frame has the US Springfield eagle and "1872". Rifle was manufactured in the white with the exception of the case colored frame. Features two barrel bands, cleaning rod, folding leaf military ladder rear sight, full length walnut stock, "US" stamped buttplate. Top of stock has "58" rack number. Left side has "ESA" Erskin S. Allin inspector stamp. Remington's patent stamp on tang. CONDITION: Bands and barrel are a soft mix of gun metal grey and patina. Frame colors have basically patterned out. Buttplate is grey with freckles. Stock has a few minor dings but otherwise excellent. Mirror bore.
