Fine 3rd Model large frame "Army" Plant revolver, a standard 3rd Model. CONDITION: Barrel retains considerable original fading blue, very slight pitting around the manufacturer's legend. Cylinder has excellent marking, patented July 12th, 1869 and July 1863, and retains considerable original blue mixing with brown. Brass frame retains much original silver, frame screw still retains original bluing. Hammer is mostly blue-brown. Rosewood grips retain considerable original varnish. The action of this gun is tight as new. Bore is good with very strong rifling. These large Plants were purchased and carried during the Civil War as a personal sidearm. There are advertisements stating the Plant "Army" was purchased by the U.S. Revenue Service, but there are no records of such contracts. A better than average specimen of this Civil War era revolver.
