This unusual Smith & Wesson Army with a butt stamped "US ARMY MODEL 1917", left rear trigger bow has the Springfield eagle inspector stamp, top left of frame has the Ordnance bomb but the barrel is not stamped "UNITED STATES ARMY" as usually found. The face of the cylinder has the Springfield eagle inspector stamp. Matching serial numbers on cylinder and barrel. All other standard features include square butt, N frame, six shot, fluted cylinder, pinned barrel, commercial blue finish, case colored trigger, lanyard ring and two piece walnut grips. There is a star stamped under the serial number on butt but gun has not been refinished. CONDITION: Overall frame and cylinder retain 90% original blue with overall high edge wear and drag line. Straps are basically grey patina. Trigger guard is 50/50 blue-grey. Blue is brilliant with no corrosion. Generous colors. Excellent grips that look to have been refinished. Near mint bore. Tight as new action. Unusual gun not to find the under barrel stamp.
