This extremely fine example of the long barreled Moore belt revolver was the prized possession of Captain Henry Kellogg who was slain during the Vicksburg campaign. The backstrap is period inscribed "Capt. Kellogg 33rd Ills". Letters from the research department of Blue Book Publications and from Norman Flayderman, perhaps the most respected authority of antique guns of the 20th century, accompany this magnificent Civil War Moore revolver. Captain Kellogg's service record is most distinguished and one rare finds a Civil War revolver belonging to an officer killed in action. Captain Kellogg's revolver comes in an original period holster. CONDITION: The barrel of Captain Kellogg's revolver retains much of its original bright factory blue. The cylinder retains nearly all the original bright factory blue with some thinning. The engraved frame retains nearly all of its original darned silver plating. The backstrap and trigger guard retains nearly all their original darkened silver plating. The grips have most of their original varnished with some minor wear on the left side of grip and around the butt. The action is excellent and the bore is also excellent, showing little evidence of firing. This is one of the most attractive and authentic Civil War officer-owned revolvers it has been our pleasure to catalog. Accompanying this gun is a modern reproduction French fitted case with a small plaque bearing Kellogg's name and unit information, along with reproduction accessories and period ammo.
