M1 Garand "Tanker" by an unknown source; according to Scott Duff in the book "M1 Garand World War II", approximately 150 M1 rifles were shortened and tested for jungle and paratrooper use, referred to as the Model T26. He goes on to say "What happened to other shortened rifles?...but it is conceivable some found their way into a duffel bag and came home. An enthusiastic collector making a claim that his "Tanker" was an original would find it difficult to establish its provenance". Features a Springfield World War II receiver with "SA" marked op rod, bolt and trigger group. "SA" marked barrel with "5-51" date. Late rear sight with fixed front. Wood stock with stamped letters in stock. Comes with woven green military sling and original sleeve. CONDITION: Excellent reapplied military finish with good stock finish. Bore is good. TE reading: 2. ME reading: 2. Excellent mechanics and functions fine.
