World War II vintage Winchester Model 1897 Trench Gun with blued receiver with correct marked "CYL" choke marking. Made in documented correct "E" serial number range. Early style "US" marking on left side of the receiver. Correct flaming bomb stamp on top of barrel. Correct early unmarked six hole heat shield. Correct length of barrel extending beyond bayonet stud. Gun has correct World War II takedown feature. Walnut stock with corrugated forearm. Buttstock has non-fluted comb and crossed cannon cartouche on left side with "A 18" stamped on pistol grip. CONDITION: Barrel retains 70% original blue with an excellent bore. Heat shield has a mark from a bend at one point in time. Action has 70% blue with magazine tube turning plum. Stock has worn finish on forearm and 70% varnish on replaced unfluted comb buttstock. Mechanically solid and functions fine. Good World War II gun with the exception of the replaced buttstock.
