John Oberlies is regarded as one of the finest gunsmiths working in America during the 1920's and 30's. Anything that he customized is highly prized by collectors. This 1891 rolling block is one of his finest creations. CONDITION: The round barrel is marked "John Oberlies" in script "Dayton O" and retains nearly all its custom bluing. The adjustable rear sight is masterfully fitted to the top of the rolling block frame which retains most of its original custom blue finish. The sideplate studs are stippled, as is the front of the trigger and the top of the rolling block itself. The beautifully panel checkered forend has an inset ebony front and a silver acorn. The panel checkered walnut grip has an inset diamond silver key and the butt has an inset silver arrowhead. The gun is Oberlies serial No. 20 on barrel and grip. If one collects vintage American custom gunsmith pistols, this Remington by John Oberlies would be the centerpiece of the collection.
