Colt single Action Army manufactured in 1911 and customized by noted gunsmith John Oberlies of Dayton, Ohio. Oberlies was well known for his custom rifles and as a Colt dealer in the 1930's era. This custom Colt is chambered for .22 LR . 5-1/2" barrel with a rich rust blue finish overall. Two piece tiger maple grips with small iron horse shoes inset at top. Checkered fire blue trigger with unique rim fire hammer. Cylinder has been masterly sleeved to accommodate the smaller .22 RF cartridge. Signed on top of barrel in script "John Oberlie Dayton Ohio" as well as cal marking "22-LR". Grips are numbered to gun and front strap is marked "Lou. Trapp." under left grip. This is a wonderful custom conversion with a silky smooth action. This is the second example this cataloger has seen in the past few years. Little is known of Oberlies custom revolvers, his custom long guns are of great quality and are not uncommon to be found in the mid-Ohio area. CONDITION: Very fine with a slight amount of edge wear at muzzle and leading edges of cylinder flutes. Action is smooth and lock up very sound. The bore is bright with sharp lands and grooves.
