Lot consists of: Gun (A) Webley Mk VI manufactured in 1915 with the following features: blue finish, matching serial numbers, untrimmed cylinder, six inch barrel, fixed front and rear sights, traditional British proofs including the double broad arrow indicating sale as military surplus. Backstrap is engraved to "A.L. Makinson 5th Batt Manc Regt" probably for Albert Latham Makinson, a Second Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. Makinson was made Second Lieutenant May 26th, 1915, the same year the revolver was manufactured. CONDITION: Gun has 40% of original finish with the balance turning plum. Trigger guard is devoid of any finish and appears to have been cleaned. Minor age freckling is on the trigger guard and scattered across the gun. Bore is bright and shiny with well defined rifling but some scattered pitting. Perfect manual mechanics. (B) is a Webley Mk IV in .38/200 with the following features: war finish, matching serial numbers, single broad arrow, traditional British proofs. Grips are pencil marked, but all digits after "87" are illegible. Grips are marked "Webley" at top and feature checkering and diamond escutcheons. Rotatable lanyard loop. CONDITION: Gun is in good used condition. Retains 80% original war finish with significant silvering on high edges. Barrel has significant age freckling along the bottom. Grips are good but show signs of use and scattered handling marks. Mill marks are clearly visible as the wartime demand required functionality over aesthetics. Fine bore and action. A nice, solid pair of interesting Webley revolvers.
