Factory letter states this revolver was one of five Model 53's with 4" barrel, square butt and blued finish and was shipped on October 2nd, 1975 to the Rocky Mountain Police Supply in Denver, Colorado. This was one of Smith & Wesson's more interesting ventures; referred to as "The Jet", it came with dual cylinders which allowed the shooting of the .22 Remington Jet or the .22 LR. It is a six shot, double action, fluted cylinder, built on the square butt K target frame with three screw, pinned barrel, recessed chamber, red ramp front sight, target adjustable rear, wide case colored target hammer and trigger, and smooth rosewood grips with gold medallion. All Jets were supplied with nickel wash coated steel inserts to fire the .22 LR cartridge. The hammer has a switch to select the dual firing pins for either centerfire or rimfire. A total of 14,956 developed. CONDITION: Aside from a couple of handling marks and ghost drag line, revolver is near new inside and out in original box, which is interesting as the barrel length has been changed on the box from 4" to 6". Box has both factory cut-out for 4" and 6". Included with the gun is the extra cylinder, six nickel insert and paperwork. It is our opinion that this gun left the factory with a 6" barrel and the order had been changed last minute, without being recorded properly.
