Offered is a high condition 1864 dated Springfield rifle that does not appear to have seen any use. All metal is in the white with the exception of case colored lock and hammer that still display their dull colors. The left side of stock has two sharp cartouches in ovals; "ESA" for Erskine Allin and "WPT" for William P. Taylor. Left side of barrel has "VP (eagle head)" proof. Top of barrel is dated 1864. CONDITION: The near mint walnut stock still has the raised grain with just a couple small handling marks. Mirror bore. About as nice an example that one could ever hope to find for the collector that has been searching for the best 1864 dated rifle extant. Comes with an original wood tompion and leather sling that features brass hook, two keepers that is still soft with some checking.
