This is the first official dated Trapdoor not listed as an Allin Conversion, yet it was still designed by him and uses leftover Civil War parts, such as the 1863 dated Springfield lock, buttplate with no trap, and Allin style folding rear sight. Serial number on left side of barrel that matches number on left side of frame. Stock has three "ESA" cartouche stamps on left side. Still has two piece trigger guard. CONDITION: Barrel finished in the white, as are most of the metal parts which are extremely clean and probably polished, but not ground. The 1870 dated block is dull grey patina as are hammer and lockplate. Wood is excellent with usual minor handling marks. Mirror bore with sharp rifling. An extremely nice example of an 1868 Springfield that was made 1868-72. This rifle comes with an original leather period sling, early model with brass hook and two keepers. There are no visible maker stamps but the previous owner has written his name and unit twice, on both ends: "Company F Nevada National Guards Lee Terrell" and is dated January 3rd, 1892.
