The Model 1870 is the second Trapdoor that was not designated as an Allin Conversion. It was still made using an 1863 dated Springfield lock. The block is stamped 1870. The buttplate does not have a trap. It still has the early folding rear sight and two piece trigger guard. All other features are standard such as swivels and full length walnut stock with "ESA" cartouche on left side. CONDITION: All metal, with exception of lock, block, and hammer, are finished in the white with nice case colors on lock. Block is dark patina, hammer is light patina. Wood is in excellent condition with usual handling marks. Mirror bore exhibits strong lands and grooves. Slightly less than 12,000 made from 1870 to 1873 in both carbine and rifle configurations so this is a fairly scarce model to obtain, and this is one of the best condition examples we have seen.
