The Model 1870 is the second Trapdoor that was not designated as an Allin Conversion. It was still made using an 1863 dated Springfield lock. The block is stamped 1870. Buttplate does not have a trap. It still has the early folding rear sight and two piece trigger guard. All other features are standard such as swivels and full length walnut stock with "ESA" cartouche on left side. CONDITION: All metal surfaces are a clean smooth grey patina. Wood has added coat of finish but is in excellent condition with usual handling marks. Bore exhibits strong lands and grooves. Slightly less than 12,000 made from 1870 to 1873 in both carbine and rifle so this is a fairly scarce model to obtain in this nice of condition. Comes with original period leather sling; single brass hook with two keepers.
