Approximately 10,000 rifles were made in 1871 to 1872. Using a Remington Rolling Block frame with a 36" barrel finished in the white with two bands. The rear sight is an 1868 type. The left side of the frame is stamped "MODEL 1871". The right side is stamped "US SPRINGFIELD" with eagle. Sling swivel on trigger guard and front band. Walnut buttstock is stamped "ESA" in oval for Erskin Allin. Stocked with a near full length forend. The frame tang is stamped with Remington patent. CONDITION: Traces of color on frame. Balance of finish is in the white and clean, almost blemish free. The stocks are near mint, proud to metal with sharp cartouche and rich color. All frame legends are sharp as new. Mirror bore. This rifle saw very little use and is in superb all original factory condition. A beauty.
