Very early model. Lock is dated 1873 with eagle. Lock is dated 1873 with "US / SPRINGFIELD" and eagle. Stock has single cartouche in oval "ESA" for Erskine Allin. Frame flush to barrel, early 1873 sight with slot-less screws (pins). No trapdoor. "VP" eagle head proof on left side of barrel. Script "P" on wrist. Two piece trigger guard and long wrist. CONDITION: Barrel is a pleasing blue drifting patina. Mottled grey on block. Front barrel band has 75% blue while rear is mostly patina. 50% blue-brown patina on trigger guard. Excellent stocks with just minor handling marks. Mirror bore. Comes with cleaning rod and leather sling. Sling is a Civil War brass hook hold-over, two keepers, maker marked "Hartzel US Ord. Dept". Extremely fine condition for this early of an 1873 Model. CORRECTION: There is a chip in forend about 13" from muzzle measuring approximately 1".
