Offered is an all original Model 1879 standard military issue trapdoor. The rear sight has the slotless screws and is stamped "R". The block is stamped "US Model 1873". The lock is stamped "US / SPRINGFIELD" with eagle and no date. Buttplate does not have trapdoor. Left side of barrel has the "VP" proof. Left side of walnut stock has a bold "SWP" Sam Porter cartouche, is dated 1880, and cursive proof "P" on wrist. Standard two bands with swivels and ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel is a 90% silky smooth blue just beginning to drift. Block retains traces of colors. The blackened lock and hammer retain virtually all of their original oil quenched finish. The stock has a few impressions with nearly all of its original oil finish. Bore has sharp lands. Comes with an original period leather sling that features a single brass hook and two keepers.
