Offered is a superb all original Model 1879 standard military issue trapdoor. The rear sight has the slotless screws and is stamped "R". Block is stamped "US MODEL 1873". The lock is stamped "US / SPRINGFIELD" with eagle and no date. Buttplate does not have trapdoor. Left side of barrel has the "VP" proof. Left side of walnut stock has a bold "SWP" Sam Porter cartouche and dated 1882. Standard two bands with swivels and ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel is a silky smooth blue-patina blend. The block retains 90% colors. Blackened lock and hammer retain virtually all of their original oil quenched finish. The stock has a few impressions with nearly all of its original oil finish. Bore shines like a mirror. Comes with an original period leather sling that features a single brass hook and two keepers, and is in near mint condition as well. One of the best.
