Approximately 65,000 made from 1889 to 1893. This was the last of the standard trapdoor model rifles. This is a fine, all original, 1891 dated trapdoor that features standard Buffington rear sight, hooded front sight, trapdoor buttplate, standard rod, twin bands. Sharp "SWP 1891" Samuel Porter cartouche and cursive "P" on bottom of wrist. This rifle was made with standard rod-bayonet. Block stamped "US MODEL 1884". Lock has eagle but not dated. CONDITION: Barrel retains 95% arsenal blue that is starting to drift. There is at least 95% original case colors on block. Lock and hammer retain 95% of their oil quenched finish. The bands retain 75% bright blue with some blue on screws. Mirror bore. Comes with original period leather sling with single brass frog and two keepers.
